Update or install the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant

Prevent migration failure by upgrading to Jira Cloud Migration Assistant 1.7.3 or higher

We are ending support for all older versions of Jira Cloud Migration Assistant.

You won鈥檛 be able to use the following versions:

Jira Cloud Migration Assistant 1.7.1 and lower

We are improving our migration tooling and expanding their existing capabilities. For a smoother and more stable migration experience, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of Jira Cloud Migration assistant within six weeks of it release.

The Jira Cloud Migration Assistant is an app available for Jira Server and Data Center.

The assistant is pre-installed in these versions:

Jira 8.14 and later

Jira Service Management 4.14 and later

You can install it manually in these versions:

Jira Core Server 7.6, or later

Jira Software Server and Data Center 7.6, or later

Jira Service Management Server and Data Center 7.6, or later

If you're on an unsupported Server or Data Center version and don't have active maintenance on your server license (which is required to upgrade), you can use a free trial license to upgrade in preparation for your migration. Learn how to migrate to cloud with an expired Server license

Here鈥檚 some prerequisite information:

If your Jira Server or Data Center instance is behind a firewall, you need to allow access for domains and IP addresses needed by the assistant. Learn more about IP addresses and domains

The Jira Cloud Migration Assistant supports limited recovery in the case of a server failure during migration. To maximize recovery capabilities, we recommend only running one migration at a time per two Data Center nodes.

In the case of a server failure during migration, the assistant will:

if the server failure occurs during export, automatically recover the migration up to two times, as long as there are two Data Center nodes per migration and both don鈥檛 crash at the same time

if the server failure occurs during import, automatically recover the migration an unlimited number of times, as long as there are two Data Center nodes per migration and both don鈥檛 crash at the same time

In the event that all Data Center nodes crash, then recovery (as outlined above) isn鈥檛 guaranteed. However, recovery may still be possible if one node (per migration) is restarted within three minutes.

To install the assistant:

In Jira Server or Data Center, go to Administration > Manage apps.

Select Find new apps.

Search for Jira Cloud Migration Assistant.

Select Install.

To update the assistant:

In Jira Server or Data Center, go to Administration > Manage apps.

Select Manage apps.

Search for Jira Cloud Migration Assistant.

Select Update.

To open the assistant:

In Jira Server or Data Center, go to Administration > System > Migrate to Cloud.
